Remember When You Didn’t Want Them to See Your Mess?

Uncategorized Sep 01, 2026

 Dear Shanita,

You spent 30ish years trying to show the world that you’ve got it all figured out. You achieved that through your A’s, accolades, and actions (giving everyone everywhere everything they ever asked for). You never wanted anyone to see the internal mess that overachieving people-pleasing behaviors caused until you broke down and couldn’t hide anymore. Once you shared your hot-mess-express stories via Dear Durga, you gave yourself permission to be honest about the hardships of motherhood and entrepreneurship. Even today as you begin a new chapter, you don’t actually know your next steps. Yet, that’s OK as you know the courage crew is on standby while taking baby steps forward. It’s OK that you’re still building Courage Magic (building takes time). It’s OK that you’re still brainstorming new projects (noodling through ideas often makes them better!). It’s OK that you’re still waiting for replies that range from coaching clients to classroom teachers (if it’s meant to happen it will). There’s nothing wrong with you because you are resourceful and whole just how Maa made you. Murky middles amidst unknowns indicate that you’re just like everyone else—human. In this day and age of influencer folks frontin’ like they got it in the bag, wouldn’t you consider your level of transparency a demonstration of courage?!

Did you ever feel badly for not having it all figured out? And if so, did your courage come through to help you change that?

With love + courage,

Me
